Introduction:
The responsibility assigned to this division include;
installation and maintenance of all public landscapes within the
jurisdiction of the Public Service Department; vegetation control, urban
forestry, rights of way mowing and maintenance, State DOT mowing contracts,
Utilities Engineering mowing contract and manpower for Nuisances Abatement.
The division currently maintains an urban forest of over 25,000 public
trees, 100 acres of turf, 145 miles of street right-of-ways, numerous
landscape areas and pocket parks throughout the city, and the implementation
of nuisance abatement practices as outlined in the Code of Ordinances.
Through the city's neighborhood initiative, the division is heavily
involved in working with district policing, and minimum housing efforts to
promote a feeling of safety and security within the city.
The Landscape Division also provides staff support and assistance to the
Cemetery Division and to the implementation and development of Elizabeth
Holmes Hurley Park, along with assistance to other department and divisions
as needed.
