Responsibilities:
Code Enforcement is responsible for enforcing
ordinances relating to nuisances (specifically Chapter 13 - Section 227
Motor Vehicles and Chapter 14 - Nuisances.) Properties located in the City
of Salisbury that are overgrown, have trash and debris in yards, indoor
furniture on porches, appliances in yards, junked or abandoned vehicles, or
overgrown vacant lots are inspected and written notification sent to
property owners, tenants and vehicle owners. They are given 15 days
from receipt of the letter to abate the property. If at that time the
property is not abated, the city will abate it a cost to the property
owner. |
Cost for abatement is:
Mowing:
Mobilization fee $125 + $50 for every
hour or portion thereof. |
Removal of trash, overgrowth, trees, household
items on the outside, demolitions or securing buildings or any other
nuisances identified by the Code of Ordinances:
Mobilization fee $200 + $100 for every hour or
portion thereof + associated landfill fees. |
Second violation within
12 months by the same owner at the same location: Not less than $500
If fees are not paid
within 30 days, a tax lien is filed against the property owner. |
