 The
Project SAFE Salisbury Resource Specialist is a grant funded
position which operates in conjunction with the Salisbury Police
Department. Project SAFE Resource Specialist Teresa Vinson is a
Summa Cum Laude graduate of Livingstone College, with a Bachelor of
Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.Position duties include Project SAFE notification and follow-up participation, interviews with notified ex-offenders and counseling of clients. In addition, corporate and community contacts are established for employment, resources and clients' immediate and future needs. The Specialist works closely with Probation and Parole, while maintaining a database for tracking notified offenders, performing administrative duties and creating a mentoring program. The specialist attends meetings, community casings and job-related conferences to increase Project SAFE awareness. Communication with local schools, colleges and children's agencies, offer community outreach regarding the Project SAFE program. Through the specialist, clients receive assistance in filling out applications, interview scheduling, job scheduling, transportation and school enrollment. "If we positively modify one’s thinking, it affects one’s behavior. If one’s behavior is affected in a positive manner, it improves the quality of life in the community. For this reason, it is imperative that we strive to affect the mindset of ex-offenders, and assist them in living a crime free lifestyle. Only then will our communities be safer." Teresa R.
