Department of Transportation Constructs Temporary Driveway Connection from Hendrix BBQ to Residential Ashbrook Drive
Salisbury, NC – December 28, 2005 – The Salisbury City Council has been advised that the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) constructed a temporary driveway connection from Hendrix BBQ to Ashbrook Drive in spite of a unanimous 2004 Council ruling to the contrary. Having concluded that restaurant parking should be accessible only from US 70, the Council voted 5-0 to deny a request for such a driveway based on concerns from the adjacent neighborhood.
Dan Mikkelson, City of Salisbury Land Management Director, recently informed Council members of NCDOT’s decision to construct the temporary driveway connection. Mikkelson states, “NCDOT will construct and utilize the “temporary” connection from Hendrix to Ashbrook for several months, due to Highway 70 construction. The connection will later be removed by NCDOT.”
Speaking on behalf of the Salisbury City Council, Mayor Susan Kluttz re-emphasized Council support for Westcliffe residents and the preservation of Salisbury’s neighborhood subdivisions. “Council strongly stands by our July 2004 ruling which denied a driveway connection from Hendrix BBQ to Westcliffe, via Ashbrook Road. Although projected as “temporary”, it is truly unfortunate that the Department of Transportation has chosen to proceed in a direction that City Council made clear it would not allow.”
For more information regarding the status of the NCDOT planned driveway construction, please contact Wendy Brindle, Salisbury Land Management Division, via email at wbrin@salisburync.gov or visit the City’s website at www.salisburync.gov.
