Celebration Veteran's Day at City Park Center
By: Paul Moore, Recreation Coordinator at City Park Center
The Salisbury
Parks and Recreation Department along with children attending the
Terrific Turkey Tuesday program at City Park Center, hosted an
appreciation party for three active National Guardsmen (Salisbury)
and four local retired veterans on Tuesday, November 11. To honor
their service to our country, children in attendance prepared
delicious doughnuts and served hot chocolate to the guardsmen and
veterans. Following the party, each veteran shared stories and
discussed their assigned duties within their respective branch of
service. Stories shared included memories from the Korean War,
World War II, serving as a physician on a naval transport and
serving as flight engineers and air commandoes. The National Guard
unit in Salisbury also arrived in their special fire truck and
shared the unique features that it contained to help protect those
in need at home and abroad. Following the appreciation party the
children and staff joined others in the community to watch the
Veteran’s Day Parade.
Salisbury Parks and
Recreation would like to send a special thank you to those who came
to our program as well as to thank all active and retired servicemen
