Halloween
FunFest
Saturday, October 28, 2006
Salisbury Parks & Recreation partnered with Downtown
Salisbury, Inc. in presenting Halloween FunFest--a fun filled
festive event aimed at giving families a fun and safe environment to
celebrate Halloween! The event, which took place on Saturday,
October 28, raised more than $900 and drew in more than 500
enthusiasts dressed up in costumes featuring the likes of the pilot
of stealth bomber, a box of movie theatre popcorn, members of the
band KISS and the crew from the Star Wars Trilogy! High school
cheerleaders and basketball players served as volunteers running
operations such as the hay ride, the haunted trolley ride, and
several Halloween themed games. Local businesses donated prizes for
winners of the costume contest and distributed candy out of their
store fronts for "Downtown Trick-or-Treating." Food vendors featured
local cuisine and amateur dance groups offered their talents as
entertainment. Recreation Coordinator, Talita McCain, was pleased
with the wonderful artistry that the event stirred up among
attendees and staff alike. One staff member went as far as to dress
up as a, "Cereal Killer” with cereal boxes glued all over his dark
cape. Creativity, a sense of community, and spooktacular competition
made this Halloween FunFest one to remember!

10th Annual Father Daughter Dance
Sets
Attendance Record
Saturday, February 4, 2006
The Salisbury Parks & Recreation Department sponsored their 10th
annual Father/Daughter Dance at the Salisbury Civic Center, 315 S.
Boundary Street on Saturday, February 4, 2006 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
The Father/Daughter Dance featured dancing, snacks, games, door
prize giveaways, Valentine's card craft room, a DJ and much, much
more. Girls, ages four through thirteen, enjoyed bringing their dads, step-dads and
guardians to this annual Valentine event. Girls and dads received
complimentary gifts as they entered the event.
Dress was
semi-formal and tickets were a sell-out as in year's past. Salisbury
Parks & Recreation is the originator of this local event and many in
attendance had been coming to the event for years. This year's
attendance set a record with 345 attendees.
Recreation
Coordinator, Jeff Holshouser, organizer of the event stated, "This
event just seems to grow each year and it always offers a wonderful
opportunity for dads to be with their daughters near Valentine's
Day. Many thanks to our generous sponsors for this year's event:
Speaks Custom Windows, Food Lion, Haven Lutheran Church, Scott
Snider CPA, Animal Care Center of Salisbury, Chapman's Signs and
Pots of Luck Florist." Due to Civic Center size and fire code
restrictions, ticket sales are limited. Holshouser adds, "We seem to
run out of tickets earlier and earlier each year. Our only regret is
that we can not accommodate everyone that wishes to attend."
For more information regarding the Father Daughter Dance or rental
opportunities at the Salisbury Civic Center, please contact

Cinderella Prom Show Offers
Opportunity to Give Back to Others
Saturday, January 28, 2006
The
Salisbury Parks & Recreation Department sponsored A Cinderella Story
Prom Show on Saturday, January 28, 2006 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. The event, held at
the Salisbury Civic Center, 315 S. Boundary Street, offered an
exciting evening run-way show, highlighting the latest gowns and
tuxedo styles.
Held in conjunction with Lasting Impressions Formal Wear, the event
accepted donations of gently used formal dresses, coordinating
jewelry, accessories, shoes and purses in the tradition of well
known and established Cinderella Projects. Without Cinderella
assistance, many local students would be unable to attend formal
events such as proms due to financial restraints.
Cinderella
donations allow dreams to come true as the proper attire is made
available for those that qualify and wish to attend these formal
events. In addition to the receipt of donated items at the Prom
Show, formal wear donations continue to be accepted at Lasting
Impressions of Salisbury.
Recreation Programmer April Hawkins, coordinator of the event states, "It
is a pleasure to assist in providing formal wear to local students
that may not otherwise have an opportunity to attend their proms due
to other financial obligations. Thank you to everyone that
generously donated formal wear to the Cinderella Prom Show Project
and made this program a success." For more information

Jeff
Holshouser by email or at (704) 216-PLAY. |
