East Fisher Street Neighborhood

The East Fisher Street Neighborhood will soon undergo a redevelopment planning process similar to what was recently done in the Park Avenue neighborhood.  Although the process will be similar, the neighborhood fabric is not.   East Fisher is unique in its proximity to downtown and its mixture of citizens from many different backgrounds and cultures.  The area includes the thriving Brooklyn-South Square National Register Historic District, the City's Civic Center, as well as some of the City's public housing complexes.

The ongoing redevelopment process will see a mixture of activities and planning efforts including historic preservation, housing rehabilitation and homeownership assistance.  Throughout the process, neighborhood leaders will be sought out to assist in the drafting and implementation of the plan.  Information gathering and needs assesment will take place for the first phase of the East Fisher Street Neighborhood Redevelopment Plan during the first quarter of 1999.
