The Innes Street Corridor Study
| This project is an outgrowth
of an Urban Design Assistance Team study conducted in 1995. The effort involves the
implementation of strategies to improve the visual and functional aspects of Innes Street
a transportation corridor that bisects Salisbury. Projects and programs
include sidewalk installation, landscape improvements and the Innes Street Improvement Grants which are
available to private property owners to make physical improvements to facades, signs and
landscaping. Additionally, a major study is being conducted to consider redevelopment
standards for property along the corridor by way of a zoning overlay or the creation of a
new zoning district. For more information, contact Joe Morris, Urban Resources Manager, at 638-5233. |

Robertson Eastern-Gateway Park is adjacent to the Central Business District on East Innes Street. Just west of the railroad tracks on Innes Street, the park represents the "gateway" into the downtown area. |

| Most types of land uses can be found along the Innes Street corridor from commercial, to residential, and even industrial. The picture on the right shows a vacant tract of land located on West Innes Street just north of its intersection with Jake Alexander Boulevard (Hwy 601). Although the majority of Innes Street has some sort of development, portions still remain undeveloped. |
