CITY OF
PARTS TECHNICIAN
DEFINITION
To
perform responsible parts and stockroom duties in the receipt, storage and
issuance of City garage parts and supplies; and to maintain current, accurate
parts inventory records.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND
EXERCISED
Receives
general supervision from the Parts Manager.
Exercises
no supervision.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES – Duties may include, but are not
limited to, the following:
Perform
data input to maintain parts inventory control.
Receive
and properly store parts and supplies.
Issue
and complete purchase orders for parts ordered to meet emergency needs.
Maintain
awareness of parts inventory and stock levels of specific parts and supplies.
Complete
work orders and price all parts.
Unload
and stock parts received.
Respond
to special parts requests from other City departments.
Conduct
regular inventory checks on all parts and materials in stock.
Confer
with salesmen regarding parts and supplies as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic procedures for maintaining stock
records and any related paperwork.
Methods and procedures of stock control.
Inventory lists including cost of
items purchased.
New parts and equipment needs.

Basic parts and equipment needs.
Basic mathematical principles.
Operational characteristics and
applications of data processing equipment.
Ability
to:
Prepare and maintain accurate and
complete stock records.
Analyze parts needs in given
mechanical operations.
Prioritize and respond to service demands
efficiently and effectively.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both
orally and in writing.
Operate an adding machine, computer,
typewriter and other office equipment.
Understand and follow oral and
written instructions.
Establish and maintain cooperative
working relationships with those contact in the course of work.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently
required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or
controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required
to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit and talk or hear.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally
lift weights up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE
AND TRAINING
Any
combination of education, experience and training that would likely provide the
required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Experience:
One year of responsible stock
control/stockroom operations experience, preferably in an automotive and/or
truck and equipment parts department.
Training:
Preferably supplemented by courses or
training in stock control records, procedures and general stockroom operations.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession
of, or the ability to obtain, a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an
ASE Parts Certification.
