SPECIAL MEETING
PRESENT: Mayor Susan W. Kluttz, Presiding; Mayor Pro Tem, Paul B.
Woodson, Jr.; Councilmen; William (Pete) Kennedy and Mark N. Lewis; City Manager, David W. Treme; and City Clerk, Myra B. Heard.
ABSENT: Councilman William (Bill) Burgin and City Attorney, F. Rivers Lawther, Jr.
Mayor Kluttz and City Council met at 11:00 a.m. and participated in the dedication and open house for Salisbury Fire Station 4 located at 2325 Statesville Boulevard.
Fire Chief Bob Parnell welcomed guests and Pastor Bob Freitas from Maranatha Bible Church provided the invocation. Members of the Corriher-Lipe Middle School Show Choir sang a patriotic medley. The Salisbury High School Air Force JROTC served as the color guard. Members of Boy Scout Troop 320 participated in the official raising of the flag.
Chief Parnell announced that a time capsule will be stored at Fire Station 4 and will include items from both the Fire Department and Council. It will remain sealed for fifty (50) years. He thanked Ms. Karen Alexander of KKA Architects, Summit Developers and Ms. Deb Young and the Facilities Maintenance staff for their work on the new facility.
Mayor Kluttz welcomed guests and noted that this is the first new fire station added in the City of Salisbury in fifty (50) years. She thanked all Firefighters for their work serving the citizens of Salisbury. Mayor Kluttz and Council participated in an uncoupling of a fire hose which served as the official ribbon cutting.
Guests were then invited inside for refreshments and tours of the new station.
The dedication was adjourned at approximately 12:15 p.m. No action was taken by Council.
