Local Interest
While discovering the area, be sure to check out attractions
like the
Josephus Hall
House, the Old Stone House and Okey Dokey & Co. Kerr Mill and W. J. Walls Heritage Hall are other worthy
stops.
If your own personal history interests you, cultivate your family tree at the
History/Genealogy Library, or track down
ancestors at the Salisbury National Cemetery.
Down the road a bit, in Spencer, you'll find the
North
Carolina Transportation Museum; no visit to Rowan would be complete without a ride
courtesy of a huge steam locomotive. Plan to spend half a day here enjoying North
Carolina's slice of rail history.
If you value the performing arts, you'll not be disappointed in the Salisbury Area. The
United Arts Council is quite active, sponsoring the baroque music ensemble, along with
folk-music and story-telling groups. Enjoy a production at The Meroney Theatre by
The Piedmont Players, one of the state's oldest community
theatre groups, or take in a performance by the
Salisbury-Rowan Symphony.
Rowan also offers plenty for those seeking recreation. Dan Nicholas Park, Hurley Park,
Ellis Park and High Rock Lake are pleasant options for hiking or a picnic. Golf, tennis,
softball or swimming may be enjoyed at one of many public facilities.
Whatever your interest, you'll find something "to call
home about" in this city of more than 25,000 residents. |
