Salisbury Fire Promotes 2 Engineers to Captains

The Salisbury Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of two Engineers to the rank of Captains. Engineers Baxter Miller III and Jay Baker were selected from an assessment center for the rank of Captain. On July 7 a badge pinning ceremony was held. Family; friend and fellow fire departmental members were in attendance. The Captains' support team pinned their badges to their uniforms. The theme of the ceremony was " We're Ready". Captain Miller will be assigned to Ladder 516, C shift and Captain Baker will be assigned to Engine 533, A shift. Congratulations to these two fine officers.

Baxter Miller, III

Jay began service with the City of Salisbury Fire Department on May 24, 1993.  He completed firefighter I & II certification classes and was promoted to Fire Control Specialist II in November 1994.  In January 1999, Jay was promoted to Fire Engineer. Jay has been a long time, dedicated volunteer with the Spencer Fire Department, holding the rank of Fire Chief for several years. Captain Baker will begin service on July 12, 2005 and will assume command of Engine 533- A shift, on July 13, 2005.   

 Jay has one son, Thomas.

 

 

 

 

Baxter began service with the City of Salisbury Fire Department on October 23, 1995. He was promoted to Fire Control Specialist II in December 1997 after completing NC Firefighter I & II certifications.  Baxter was promoted to Fire Engineer on July 9th, 2001.   He has been a dedicated member of the Granite Quarry Fire Department. As a firefighter assigned to Ladder 516, Miller was nationally recognized for a life saving rescue of a family on November 24, 1998.  Captain Miller will begin service and will assume command of Ladder 516 C shift on July 12, 2005.  

Buddy, and his wife Kelly, have 2 children, Luke and Lydia.
