Street Management DivisionResponsibilities of the Street Management Division include maintenance and improvements to infrastructure including pavement, sidewalks, bridges and curbing inside of City maintained rights of way. This division also ensures compliance with Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility regulations for City maintained sidewalks. In addition, the Street Management Division administers maintenance projects with revenue received from the State of North Carolina through the Powell Bill Fund. During the winter months, this division also removes snow and ice during inclement weather. The Street Management Division also regularly assists other departments with maintenance, construction and general labor as needed.
Specifically, the services provided by the Street Management Division include:
Administration - Planning, directing and supporting the construction and maintenance of City streets, sidewalks and curbing.
Street Maintenance - Performing maintenance to City streets and parking facilities not covered under the guidelines of the Powell Bill Funding. This also includes paving and patching street cuts as a result of the work efforts of various other City utilities.
Concrete Construction - Providing maintenance and repair to city sidewalks, driveways and curbs as well as responding to requests from contractors and property owners to install or repair new concrete facilities.
Powell Bill Paving and Resurfacing - Providing maintenance, repairs and paving to the City's 344 lane miles of streets.
Powell Bill Bridge/Winter Maintenance - Providing maintenance to decking, pavement and related bridge facilities and providing winter road maintenance during periods of ice and snow.
Powell Bill Concrete - Providing maintenance, repair and installation to City curb and gutter, sidewalks and bike pathways.
Yard Waste, Leaf and Limb Collection
Secondarily, the Street Management Division also oversees yard waste, leaf and limb collection within the City of Salisbury.
