 Baker Team Watch Commander Lieutenant Greg Beam

 

Baker Team Watch Lieutenant Commander, Greg Beam, graduated from North Rowan High in 1986​ and from North Carolina State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts  in Political Science with a concentration in Criminal Justice.​

Lt. Beam has worked in various capacities since he's been with the Salisbury Police Department in the patrol and traffic units, as a member of the (BOSS) unit, Patrol Sergeant, Training Sergeant and as a Criminal Investigations Division Sergeant - District Commander.

Lt. Beam is married with two children, is a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church and enjoys the outdoors, camping, fishing, landscaping and photography.

FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

Baker Team (6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.)

The position of Watch Commander (Patrol Lieutenant) is responsible for the day to day patrol operations and assigning units to specific beats based on each officers expertise or experience. They are also responsible for the timesheets, authorizing annual leave related to personnel. 

In addition, Watch Commanders conduct line inspections for uniforms, equipment and vehicles. They may also assign projects to officers to deal with certain crimes in a beat. Commanders may also attend community meetings to share information with the citizens and turn in monthly crime and project reports. 

Other areas of responsibility include enrolling officers in schools and training and ordering additional equipment and office supplies within their approved budget.
