 Recruitment Manager Mike Neely

 

Mike Neely is currently assigned to the position of Recruitment Manager and is responsible for the department's intern program, reserve officers, ride-along program, departmental promotions and Basic Law Enforcement Training (B.L.E.T.) candidates.

FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Duties of the department's Recruitment Manager include recruiting both civilian and sworn personnel for the department. These duties are accomplished by various activities, to include individual contacts with interested parties that establish contact with the department and through more formal activities such as job fairs, consortiums and on sight visits to local community colleges.

RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION
Individual Officers and employees are also encouraged to recruit from the community at large due to the broad nature of the Salisbury Police Department's business. Employment Ready-Packs are available for distribution and include a Job Interest Card, which starts the hiring process for interested parties.

Eligibility Requirements
  • U.S. citizen at least 21 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • No felony convictions nor certain misdemeanors
  • Ability to pass a thorough background review
  • Ability to pass a drug screen, psychological review and medial examination
  • Ability to meet North Carolina requirements for law enforcement officers

Hiring Process

  • Police Officer Candidates - Test at Salisbury Police Department, the first Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. No appointment is necessary.
  • Candidates will be notified within 24hrs of test completion. If candidate passes the initial test, they may proceed with the completion of an application.
  • If an application is submitted by the 15th of the month, those applicants chosen to proceed in the process will be slated for an oral board phase by the end of the same month. Those submitting applications after the 15th will likely be scheduled for the oral board process the following month.
  • Following oral boards, those applicants chosen to proceed in the process will be scheduled for a polygraph and background screening.
  • Following the background screening, those applicants continuing in the process will be scheduled for a meeting with the Chief of Police.
  • At the conclusion of their meeting with the Chief of Police, those selected for ongoing consideration will either be extended a conditional offer of employment or placed into a viable stack for hire when an opening exists.
  • Following the conditional offer phase, an applicant, depending on the position for which they are being considered, must successfully pass drug, audio, medical and/or psychological screenings.

​Police Officer Candidates

Testing is required as the first step in the hiring process.  This is offered the first Tuesday of each month at 9am here at the police department.  The test is a general knowledge test and lasts about 2 hours.  Once you pass the test, you will be given an application packet to apply.  No appointments are necessary!  Call with questions.​
